The Gang of 76 at Dong Guan food centre

I am posting this up as I receive the photos from Ben ... details are still not complete, but I reckon because of the return of two lads from Form 5Sc (1976) - Kevin "Panjang" Chin and Richard Lim Ngee Hong - the gang gathered for a welcoming makan at 0930 at Dong Guan food centre in Kuching.

Guys, correct me if I'm wrong ....

Anyway here are the photos ...

Standing (L to R): Ben, Mark, Edward, Gerard, Richard, Kevin, Norbert
Seated: Nick, Jensen, Bob, Alfred and Chng

Jensen came later ? But still in time to pay the bill, boss ! LOL

Busy tucking in ... yummmmmm ..... I'm told the breakfast delicacies include laksa, tu kar, chai kueh, nonya kueh, bak chang ... and more ...

Forget the diet, forget the cholesterol level, forget the salt content  ... you've just got to try this tu kar !!!

More details later ...

  3. It was good to meet Kevin again after 40 donkey years! Something in common we have is our grey hairs. haha...

Good to meet Richard, Nick, Mark, Jensen, Alfred and Cheng for the first time. Some of us were in SJS primary but don't communicate coz we were busy with our circle of friends. And it's good to catch up with the rest of the boys again. I was told our legal adviser bro George is in KL so couldn't make it.

Food was yummy as NGO Bob (the local food guide) knows the best. "Kopi si" is a must at Dong Guan.

The mini reunion was fun and I hope there will be many more in the near future. Over to you guys! Cheers!

  14. In fact I was hoping to get a glimpse of Ngiam Tie Fen, Liew Yu Neng, Lau Swan Chye, Sim Kee Hou, Alan Jerah, Francis Lee, Lawrence Chin, Robert and many more Kuching based flers. But I guess they must be pretty busy with work and family, hence couldn't make it this time. Moreover, it's the school holidays and many might have taken the opportunity to travel. Perhaps in some other meetings. Cheers!

  15. Many thanks to my uncle Bob for organising the meet as well as a couple of earlier ones the day before with Francis, ELAS, Wilson, Alfred, Jensen and Mark.

Needless to say, it was a pleasure to meet up with so many people and talk about old times as well as many other diverse topics (politics, anyone??).

And thanks also to Alfred for giving some of us a most interesting tour and an opportunity to meet with George Sim.

Like Gerard said, it would have been fantastic to catch up with other old friends like George Lo, Tie Fen, Suan Chye. Khee How, Alan and others - however next time, perhaps.

I'm back in Perth now. I was in Kuching to attend a niece's wedding and as I have 5 nieces, there will be many more weddings to attend, I'm sure. Of course, I hope to be back in Kuching more often to see my family.

Thanks to all who turned up - it was wonderful to see you all again.

  23. Some info on Dong Guan, sourced from Wikipedia and other websites ...

"Dong Guan is a prefecture-level city in central Guangdong province, People's Republic of China. It is an important industrial city located in the Pearl River Delta, Dong Guan borders the provincial capital of Guangzhou to the north, Huizhou to the northeast, Shenzhen to the south, and the Pearl River to the west.
It is also home to the world's largest shopping mall, South China Mall. City administration is considered especially progressive in seeking foreign direct investment. The three neighboring municipalities of Guangzhou, Dong Guan, and Shenzhen are home to over 25 million residents, accounting for a large proportion of the Pearl River Delta Region's population.
Dong Guan ranks behind only Shenzhen, Shanghai and Suzhou in exports among Chinese cities, with $65.54bn in shipment."

  24. WJ, pardon my ignorance. Is Alfred Wong and Wong Kah Kung the same person? I was looking at the above picture again and am a little confuse. I can't recall a Alfred in class.

I hope he is Wong Kah Kung coz we used to be together during recess, of course with you and also a few others during those days. But it was a very long time ago...time flies and we have somewhat change ..taller, slimmer, rounder, balder, handsomer, older mmmm... but still young at heart?

It's good to meet Alfred and the rest of the boys on that beautiful day. Cheers!
