When was the last time you visited Bako ? I suspect for most of you it might have been some time ago. Perhaps even way back in the 70s when you were on a school trip. And if you are now based far away from Sarawak, you would likely not have seen these pristine images for a while.
So here's something to bring back your memories of one of Borneo's best collections of natural flora and fauna. Turn up the volume on your computer or iPad and enjoy ...
Share your recollections of Bako and other picnic haunts during those carefree teenage years.

Ya, I looooved those picnic locations in Sarawak. Sun, sand, sea ... sexy mermaids?????
ReplyDeleteBako and Santubong ... where many teenage memories were made.
ReplyDeleteRemember many picnic trips with our Teresian counterparts back in school.
ReplyDeleteAny orang Utan in Bako?
ReplyDeleteAny sharks there or not?
ReplyDeleteGot anything on Santubong?
ReplyDeleteThose days we had to take a boat ride from Tan Boon Tien Wharf to reach Bako.
ReplyDeleteThese days, you need to drive to Bako village and take the boat ride from there.
Revisited the place last Gawai after over 30 years. No sharks or Orang Utans noted, but had close encounters with a agressive macaque and 2 (not so) wild boars that came really close foraging for food.
Another popular camping site then was Teluk Bandung. It should be somewhere where Damai Puri is located now.
ReplyDeleteThen we had to take a boat ride to Santubong followed by an hour's hike in the jungles to reach the site.
Pretty isolated then. No chalets, no piped water, no electricity. Setup your own tents, a stream nearby provides water for bathing, washing, drinking and cooking. Need to bring along stove and other cooking utensils as well as enough foodstuff for the duration of your stay usually 3 days 2 nights.
Santubong got 'hantu' or 'mok mok' in the chalets.......can hear dishes been wash by unseen 'forces'....eeeeeeeeeek!
ReplyDeleteBen and Ah Loot were with the scouts back then leh....they know better whether got 'hantu' or not.
Scouts eh? Bet they can't remember how to tie even simple knots these days.
