.
Have you heard that St Joseph's School is going PRIVATE ? What I learnt is that it will be privatised, with the Church having majority ownership, and run as a private institution from year 2012.
I certainly don't have all the full details, and some of you will know much more than me. Please do share.
i think this is great news. St Joe can now try to reclaim its glory years!
ReplyDeleteReally? What does this mean?
ReplyDeleteANY UPDATES?
ReplyDeleteIf that is the case - it may reclaim all it glory years and high standards, the majority of the poorer in the Society will lose out. I hope there will be allowance to consider those who cannot afford the fees.
ReplyDeleteDO NOT FORGET YOUR ROOTS and your past - If SJS was privately ran in my days (70s), I will not be able to attend the school and so do many of you.
Good point, NotSoWellOff ... I hope that even with the new privatized organization, SJS will offer some scholarships and bursaries to deserving students who may have problems with the school fees.
ReplyDeleteC'mon guys - we are all waiting for more news on this? Anybody know more?
ReplyDeleteThe Catholic Mission govern by the Parish Council will start with a primary school first. Most likely they will use one of the blocks of former St. Bernadette's School, currently been use by St. Joseph Parish Tuition School.
ReplyDeleteThe other block is presently use by St. Jude Kindergarten.
Anyone of you still remember where my former residence is? Well, the place is now the workers shed or after the old house was pulled down.
The old Catholic Center site is flatten down now and will be used as a temporary car park for church goers and maybe teachers of the schools. Haven't seen any cars parking there yet.
WJ, can you help calculate what will be our (form5 1976) equity ?We should support the project to privatise St Joseph's school The catholic Parish has prime property as well to build its own Specialist Hospital and home for homeless senior citizens .
ReplyDeleteEquity? You need to invest before you get equity leh
ReplyDeleteFinally.... days of glory coming back... As an ex-Josephian, I'm very excited about it...
ReplyDeleteMy boy is now at St. Theresa Padungan and if the school starts in 2012, it would be perfect to transfer him there.
Meantime, I've to registered my daughter for Pri 1 this year. Anyone can tell me if it also caters for girls? Or is it solely boys' school?
Pls, pls do post more updates...TQ,TQ!!
I heard there was a news article in the Star paper yesterdays ago. Can someone scan and send me a copy & I'll update on this post. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWe former Josephians should show our support for this move, and do what we can to make sure it succeeds. Sons and daughters of St Joseph's, a call is resounding ..... ;-)
ReplyDeleteas an ex-Josephian, i am also excited to hear about this. finally, our school can regain it's former glory and future students can once again be proud as we were when we were students there.
ReplyDeletei am sure the fees charged will be reasonable and there will be provisions for the hard-core poor but able and deserving students.
i only hope there will be options for ex-students to assist is some way when the need arises.
A friend pointed out to me that we old boys are now in a fix: a new St Joseph Private run by the Mission at the old St Bernadette school and the old St Joseph Public run by the Government at our old school. Which is our alma mater?
ReplyDeleteBoth. At least for now.
ReplyDeleteWhat??? You mean there's going to be 2 St. Joes?
ReplyDeleteI though the privatisation is about taking the present St Joe and our alma mater private.
Heard the private school's new block is coming up soon, site is just next to existing secondary block, could be behind the Indoor Stadium or in between secondary and primary block.
ReplyDeleteWill find out more and report at a later stage.
