.
Everybody can fly yes. I guess they didn't say anything about the landing part.
On the evening of Monday 10th January, an Air Asia flight from KL skidded and veered off runway 25 at Kuching International Airport during heavy rain. The plane was an Airbus A320 with 124 passengers and 6 crew members.
After the incident, this was the result ...
Fortunately no one was seriously hurt and all the passengers were safely evacuated.
As the runway was blocked, the airport was closed for almost 24 hours, and only reopened around 9pm Tuesday 11th Jan..
Were any of our friends at the scene? Any observations and insights to share?
.
Landed during bad weather, wet wet runway. Why?
ReplyDeleteThank God no serious injuries to any passengers.
How could this have been prevented? Better runway surfacing? More tracks on the aircraft wheels? Better piloting? More regulation?
ReplyDeleteAir Asia pilots need remedial classes in landing. LOL
ReplyDeleteIs this the latest in Air Asia's budget offers? The passengers have to pay extra for proper landing :)
ReplyDeleteEveryone can fly
ReplyDeleteNot everyone can land
Maybe need to look at the runway condition too. Was the construction of the runway a quickie job? I know the Miri runway has an uneven section where there's a big bump every time the plane taxi over it.
ReplyDeleteYa lah, quickies are like that - short, messy and not very satisfying
ReplyDeleteAnon 10.05,
ReplyDeletei think everyone can fly, everyone can land.
but do you mean every pilot can take-off, not every pilot can land?
I think AirAsia pilots skipped classes. This one missed the lecture on 'how to land'. ROTFL
ReplyDeleteRunway and weather condition not suitable for landing at that point in time. Who decided that the flight should land? Was the pilot instructed to landed against his better judgement?
ReplyDeleteLucky I din get Branson to serve as stewardess on this flight.
ReplyDeleteGoogled Airasia plane skidding and came across this:
ReplyDeletehttp://mymalaysia.wordpress.com/2007/03/19/air-asia-plane-crash/
Recently there was a TV documentary where Air Asia executives were interviewed, and they lamented the deep shortage of pilots. So much so that they were encouraging other ground staff to train as pilots.
ReplyDeleteFriends of mine flew in from Singapore to Kuching on Saturday at 1.10pm on Airasia. I was at the Kuching Airport to meet them.
ReplyDeleteIt was raining. Their plane approached for landing and was very near the ground when the engines surged and the plane lifted up again. The pilot explained that the tailwind was too strong for landing.
It was a frightening experience for my friends.
Control tower must have given the pilot permission to land. Didn't they know the strength and direction of the wind at that time?
If the pilot had not aborted the landing, the plane may well have skidded and overrun the runway, possibly with disastrous consequences. It's time a full investigation is carried out to find out who's to blame.
One MP from Sarawak was on that plane, flying in from KL.
ReplyDeleteAccording to him, it must be the front wheels that broke on touch down, you see, when one is landing a commercial plane or any big planes, the rear set of wheels touches down first, follow by the touch down of the front set of wheels. That's when the whole plane sort of 'nose drive' off the runway.
Not human error or runway no good, mechanics didn't check the plane properly in KL. That's what I think.
Nowadays, they do not even honour their O-T-G pledge.
ReplyDeleteapa ni O-T-G ?
ReplyDeleteO-T-G = On Time Guarantee de.
ReplyDeleteMeans if your flight is delayed by 2 hours or more, they pay you RM200 in the form of an e-voucher that can be redeemed for flight bookings. The e-voucher is valid for 3 months only.
That's where they introduced "re-timing". Never delayed. Just re-timed. Hehehe
ReplyDeleteSince this post is about airplanes, here's an airplane joke. Hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful young blonde woman boards a plane to New York with a ticket for the economy section. She looks at the seats in economy and then looks into the forward cabin at the first-class seats. Seeing that the first-class seats appear to be much larger and more comfortable, she moves forward to the last empty seat in first class.
The flight attendant checks her ticket and tells the woman that her the seat is in economy. The blonde replies, "I'm young and beautiful, and have never had this problem before. I'm going to sit here all the way, until we get to New York." Flustered, the flight attendant goes to the cockpit and informs the Captain of the blonde problem. The captain goes back and tells the woman that her assigned seat is in economy. Again, the blonde replies, in exactly the same way.
The captain doesn't want to cause a commotion, and so returns to the cockpit to discuss the blonde problem with the Co-pilot. The Co-pilot says that he has a blonde girlfriend, and that he can take care of the problem. He then goes back and briefly whispers something in the blonde's ear. She immediately gets up, says "Thank you so much, now I understand". She hugs the Co-pilot, and rushes back to her seat in the economy section. The pilot and flight attendant, who were watching with rapt attention, asked the Co-pilot what he had said to the woman. He replies, "I just told her that the first class section isn't going to New York."
If any blondes are reading this, just kidding lah. Jangan marah hoh.
O-T-G= Over Time Gaji also can.
ReplyDeleteO-T-G= Old Timer's Girlfriend also can.
O-T-G= O'ways Thank God can also.
Ask Lewis Hamilton or M Schumacher for advice, they are very good on wet surface. LOL
ReplyDeleteAiyoh Fly Boy, that was before. They do not used that excuse now. Read this reply from them on how they decline to honour the O-T-G:
