Our Siem Reap Correspondent reports ...

This posting is a little delayed, but I guess better late than never.

Our buddy Sinos Bartholomew (Form 5, 1976) reports that that on  8th February 2012, he had the privilege to welcome Tun Musa Hitam (former Deputy Prime Minister), Tan Sri Ahmad Urai (one time Sarawak minister) and former IGP Tun Haniff Omar (but tak dapat ambil gambar with him).

Contributing to St Joe Private School

Just a quick posting to get you guys to start putting a few coins or notes each day in a spare biscuit tin :)

We will be launching some interesting activities soon to collect some donations and offer some help from the Boys of the Seventies to the development of St Joseph's Private School.

Not only do we want to hand over cash, I for one think it would be more meaningful if we got ourselves involved in nurturing how the school develops.

Think about this. In 10 or 15 years time, when St Joe Private is a successful school churning out high-achieving, well-rounded, socially-responsible young men and women, you can say that you played a role in its beginnings.

Ideas welcome. Volunteers welcome. Donations welcome.

Remembering Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston (1963-2012) was a diva, in the true sense of the word. She was a recording artiste, actress, producer and model. Guinness World Records cited her as the most awarded female act of all time.

She is well known for her hits "Saving All My Love for You", "Greatest Love of All", "How Will I Know", "Didn't We Almost Have It All", and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody". She sang and starred in "The Bodyguard" (1992) alongside Kevin Costner, and the soundtrack album topped of the charts and stayed there for weeks on end..

On Feb 11, 2012, she was found dead in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, California. The cause of her death are still unclear, although rumours abound about a lethal combination of drugs and alcohol.

I remember the great lyrics from her "Greatest Love of All" hit ... the first verse goes ...

I believe that children are our future,
Teach them well and let them lead the way,
Show them all the beauty they possess inside,
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

RIP Whitney Houston ...

Remembering Ben Gazzara

Do you remember watching the TV series "Run for Your Life" when you are a kid? I do ... mainly on the black-and-white TV we used to have in Kuching during the early 70s.

Well, I first saw Ben Gazzara in that TV series, and have always enjoyed his acting. Mr Gazzara passed away on 3rd February 2012, at the age of 81..

He also starred in a film called "Saint Jack", shot entirely in Singapore in the 60s.

I'm starting this series of brief posts under a "Vanishing World" heading to highlight articles, trades or scenes that have or are disappearing from Malaysia..

Let me start with the "Daching" or handheld measuring scale. Remember them?
