ReplyDeleteSibu?
ReplyDeleteThats a old pic of Brooke Dockyard's drydock at Market Street. They now has another yard at Sejinkat.
ReplyDelete@LS - You have any photos of that?
ReplyDeleteBesides places, there is also a butterfly named after James Brooke - The Raja Brooke Birdwing. Black wings with green markings is its distinct hallmark.
ReplyDeletePics of the yard at Sejinkat? Could the Kuching based Josephians of the 70s assist?
ReplyDeleteCEO of Brooke Dockyard happens to be some1 from 5Sc1 SJS'77. Another Josephian of the 70s (i think SJS'74) is a board member.
Did you know there's a municipality called Brooke's Point, in the province of Palawan in the Philippines? It was named after Sir James Brooke.
ReplyDelete@Historical Observer - thanks for the info. that's not even in Sarawak !!!
ReplyDeleteLS,
ReplyDeleteOnce again, thank you for the photos.

There should be more places or things named after the BROOKEs surely ...
ReplyDeleteSeveral places named after the wives of the Second and Third Rajahs - Margaret and Sylvia respectively.

ReplyDeleteBrooke Inn. Room rate @ RM45 per night. Any takers?
ReplyDeleteWHAT ABOUT BROOKE SHIELDS? I JUST SAW A RECENT PHOTO OF HER AND SHE STILL HOT HOT HOT
ReplyDeleteLast week, I think I spotted a room in the Sarawak Club named after the Brookes. Anyone care to confirm?
ReplyDeleteThe Western Restaurant at the Sarawak Club is called the Rajah Room and, in it, you will find pictures of the 3 Rajahs. Yes, it is definitely dedicated to the Brookes. At the oldest and most prestigious private members' club in Sarawak, we believe in giving credit where credit is due. Come walk down memory lane with us at the Rajah Room. If you have any suggestion as to how we can add to the historical feel of the Rajah Room, please let me know.

ReplyDeleteTourism Ambassador,
ReplyDeletewhy not sponsor WJ for a stay at Brooke Inn when he visits Miri?
It is good enough for the CEO of an financial instituition who stayed there when he visited Miri recently.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteBrooke Inn not bad bah! as long at it's clean.
If WJ is in Kuching, why not try 360 express at Song Thian Cheok. affordable and clean too. it's located at the old Upwell, Wisma Phoenix.
We have another new one next to the waterfront jalan abell. it's called DePalma Inn, Waterfront at rm75 per night.
More photos from our "Brooke hunters", Nick Chin and Leo Sia ... great job guys !
